Below are some recoveries that clients of The Platta Law Firm received

$3,000,000 – Rockland County

A construction worker died as a result of a fall from a height. The decedent died within a few seconds of the fall, which precluded his family from seeking a claim for future pain and suffering. As a result of our firm’s diligent work with multiple experts, we were able to establish the decedent experienced a few seconds of conscious pain and suffering. This work, along with our detailed trial preparation, allowed us to receive a significant recovery in a venue that is traditionally tough on personal injury plaintiffs. In addition, we were able to successful negotiate a waiver of the Workers’ Compensation lien, meaning the family of the decedent did not have to return any money received from Workers’ Compensation Insurance.

$2,200,000.00 – Kings County

A construction worker fell off an unsecured scaffold and injured his neck, lower back and knee. He had surgery on his neck and knee to repair the damage from the accident. Through intense negotiations, we were able to secure a significant award for our client’s pain and suffering. A construction worker fell from a ladder as a result of an explosion at his job site. As a result of his injuries, our client underwent surgeries to his neck and back. The trial lasted a month, and included testimony from multiple medical experts as well as experts in the fields of life care planning, vocational rehabilitation, and economic loss.

$1,900,000 – New York County

A construction worker was struck in the head by two falling pipes. As a result of this accident, our client sustained injuries to his neck which required surgical intervention. The defendants appealed the Court’s decision that they were liable for our client’s accident. This appeal made it all the way up to the Court of Appeals of the State of New York. Our firm prevailed when the appeal was before New York’s highest court. In doing so, we secured a substantial award for our client, but also improved the law for construction accidents involving falling objects in the State of New York.

$1,850,000 – Kings County

A construction worker was injured when he was helping fix a clogged hot tar truck that was supposed to transport hot tar to the roof of a building that was being renovated.  As the chain and pipe were being hoisted, the chain snapped, causing the chain, pipe, and hot tar to fall and strike the worker and knock him off a ladder and onto the ground.  The worker sustained burns to his face and left arm and injuries to his right shoulder and right knee.  The burn to the arm required a skin graft and the knee and shoulder injuries each required surgery.
